| On very short notice, I took my first trip to New
York City. This was a city that I never planned to or even wanted
to go to. I grew up only minutes from New York State, and was tired
of 'I Love New York' t-shirts and bumper stickers long before I
could drive. But, things change, and I went to New York with an
open mind. I was impressed ... very impressed. Unfortunately I only
had two days in the big city, but hope to go back again.
With my previous dislike for New York, I had never sought out photos
of the city. Of course I had seen pictures of the Statue of Liberty,
the Empire State Building, etc, but I had only ever heard
of Times Square.
I must admit
that I really enjoyed traveling in such a big, famous city with
no real knowledge of the place. It allowed me to see things with
an open mind ... a mind now free of earlier prejudices. I found
myself at Times Square in the early evening, and couldn't believe
it. I've been in a lot of big cities, and seen a lot of lights,
but this was something special.
Not knowing what else to do, I jay-walked my way into the middle
of the road, took out my widest angle lens (20mm) and shot a series
of long-exposure shots. This was my favourite of the series.
