One of the most highly anticipated Chinese
festivals is the Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon Boat Races have become
famous around the world as ethic Chinese and non-Chinese alike share
a passion for this interesting form of human powered boat racing.
Like most Chinese festivals, the Dragon Boat Festival is steeped
in history and tradition, with the first related events being held
in the third century BC. In addition to racing, while attending
this Festival, you are bound to see rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo
leaves, sachets worn around the neck to ward off evil spirits, and
more. The photos in this gallery were shot at the 2001 Dragon Boat
Festival held in Bitan, Taipei, Taiwan. |
