DennisFlood.com Photos of the Week - March 2006

Comfortably into my third year of posting photos on a weekly-ish basis, I've decided that it is finally time to have a unifying theme for a month. So, in this little slice of the web, March 2006 will be dedicated to shots by my very versatile Nikon 35-70mm f2.8 lens. A month of fun, all between 35 and 70mm.

Water Splash in a Glass

Water Splash in a Glass

More than just a catchy rhyme, this really is a (great) photo of water splash in a glass. A good chunk of frozen water in the form of an ice cube helped create the splash. Good timing and a punch of flash helped complete the scene, one of my new favourites.

Steaming Kettle

This classic red tea kettle is steaming and tooting its noisy little whistle all at once. Clever but annoying that whistle is.

Nothing like intruding on somebody else's group photo ... but since they were so nicely arranged on the steps, I couldn't resist. Cheese!

First Flower

I was a little surprised to see this bright yellow flower peaking through the soil so early in the year. Warm morning sunshine must have done the trick.

Creek Crossing Ahead

With Spring just around the corner, this 'Creek Crossing Ahead' sign holds particular relevance. Though the pictographs suggest that this is a multi-use trail, I didn't see anybody but walkers out on this day.

Sometimes I forget where I am. Then I look up and see a display like this and very quickly remember exactly where I am.

Jeff Lenosky Playing Games

March 11, 2006
Trials rider Jeff Lenosky was playing bike games and performing for the crowd at Madison's much hyped Bikeorama event. His riding was definitely the highlight of an otherwise uninspired retail bike event.

The Badgers were looking pretty good in their first playoff game of the 2005-06 hockey season. I was surprised by the number of empty seats.

Rusty Chain and a Blue Pickup

March 10, 2006
My eye was bouncing back and forth between the rusty bike chain and the blue pickup truck. Since I couldn't decide which one I liked best, I decided to show them both.

Ice Fisher in a Storm

Ice Fisher in a Storm
March 06, 2006
This solitary ice fisherman was spending a quiet morning on the ice, doing what ice fishers do best ... ice fishing. With a late winter storm all around him, visibility was almost completely obscured.

Little Reminders

March 05, 2006
I remember visiting my Grandmother when I was a child, and thinking it was funny that she had a complete list of reminders posted on her door. I don't think it's so funny now. Sorry Grandma!

From the North Gallery of the Wisconsin State Capitol, not only do you get a great view of the South Gallery, but you can also take in the expansive rotunda.

Too Many Yellow Pages

Too Many Yellow Pages
March 02, 2006
I don't know about you, but where I live, nobody seems to want all of those yellow pages cluttering up their house any more. Call me a tree hugger, but, I think it might be time for the bigs to rethink this whole thing ...
