DennisFlood.com Photos of the Week - October 2005

With much of North America getting hit by all sorts of awful weather I seemed to have an awful lot of luck. It didn't matter where I was, it seemed like every day started and ended with beautiful light, inspiring me to take more photos than I've taken in a long time. A trip to New York City provided even more of that irreplaceable inspiration stuff.

Indian Corn on the Cob

October 30, 2005
I'm not sure if Indian Corn is still the correct term for this stuff, but whatever it is called, it sure is fun to look at. I wonder how it tastes?

Fresh Cheese Curds

Cheese, cheese, glorious cheese -- fresh cheese curds for sale at one of the final farmers markets on the Capitol Square for the year.

Washburn Observatory at Sunset

October 25, 2005
Though observatories like this are usually best suited for night, I personally think that this one looks pretty good at sunset.

Morning Light on Bascom Hall

Morning Light on Bascom Hall
October 25, 2005
With daybreak coming later and later every day, it is becoming quite easy to see the scenes like the University of Wisconsin's Bascom Hall in beautiful morning light.

Badgers Fans Entering Camp Randall

Badgers Fans Entering Camp Randall
October 22, 2005
Covered in red from head to toe, the Badgers masses fill UW-Madison's Camp Randall Stadium through the famous archway. The Badgers ended up satisfying as they cruised past Purdue.

Classic Fall Scene

Classic Fall Scene
October 22, 2005
This photo is unmistakably fall in the Midwest. Colourful leaves all around, and a narrow winding road fading out of the scene. Simple autumn beauty at its finest.

Monona Terrace in the Morning

Monona Terrace in the Morning
October 21, 2005
Repetition is setting in as my morning commute continues to take me past Madison's waterfront gem, the Monona Terrace. The only things that seem to change are the colour of the leaves and the position of the sun in the morning sky.

Beware of What Dog?

Beware of What Dog?
October 19, 2005
Just when I thought I knew it all ... I learned that this 'Beware of Dog' sign was pure fiction. There is no dog. In fact, the landlord forbids animals in the building. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Street Signs in Times Square

Street Signs in Times Square
October 18, 2005
I'm sure there are few places in the world that can rival Times Square in New York on many levels. I'm sure it is the hands down winner for the highest concentration of signs anywhere. Here some old fashioned signs are telling people where they are, where they can go, as well as what they can and can't do. Tesla anybody?

Manhattan Skyline at Dusk

Manhattan Skyline at Dusk
October 17, 2005
There are very few cityscapes in the world that can compare the the Manhattan skyline in New York City. This image is a composite of 9 individual vertical photos. Contact me for information about purchasing a print or licensing this photo. (View larger version.)

Belly Shot of the Statue of Liberty

Belly Shot of the Statue of Liberty
October 17, 2005
Following my instincts I quickly slammed myself down on the floor of the Staten Island Ferry to take this shot of the Statue of Liberty. Sure I looked odd and got some classic NYC grime on my clothes, but, I got the shot it wanted.

Wall Street, Wall Street, Broadway

Wall Street, Wall Street, Broadway
October 17, 2005
Certain places and certain names are just famous. As famous as Wall Street is, I'm not sure that it really needs two signs on the same pole. I guess by that logic, it must be twice as good as Broadway.

Hans Christian Heg on Guard

Long after his passing, Norwegian American Hans Christian Heg (or at least his statue) guards the eastern approach to the Wisconsin State Capitol.

Monona Terrace at Noon

Monona Terrace at Noon
October 10, 2005
Beautiful midday sun shines on the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Monona Terrace. I'm not sure if he envisioned this building surrounded by green, yellow and red leaves or not, but if he didn't, he should have.

Eerie Morning Sky Over Madison

Eerie Morning Sky Over Madison
October 06, 2005
I've seen the Madison skyline in the morning many times, but I've never seen it looking quite like this. The day turned into a typical Wisconsin autumn day, so the old adage of "Red Sky in the Morn ..." didn't pan out.

Camp Randall Stadium at Halftime

Camp Randall Stadium at Halftime
October 01, 2005
There's nothing quite like a college football game in America. So much hype, so much noise, so much pre-game drinking. Don't forget about the band at halftime. This panoramic view shows the entire field and much of the surrounding sea of red. (View larger version.)

Indiana at the 42

No action in this photo - drama perhaps, but no action. It's all about the good seat, and the great price that I got it for.

Boys and Girls Gone Wild

Boys and Girls Gone Wild
October 01, 2005
The UW student section doesn't usually need too many reasons to get rowdy. An ass-whoopin' against IU, Bucky and some cheerleaders should certainly do it!

Badgers Touchdown

Badgers Touchdown
October 01, 2005
Wisconsin Badgers #1, Brandon Williams, scores a touchdown early in the game against Indiana University. And naturally, the crowd goes wild.
