DennisFlood.com Photos of the Week - January 2006

When nothing else is getting my photographic mind excited, I go back to the basics ... signs, advertising and sports. Throw in a little beer and kitchen fun, and you've got my January of 2006.

The Beer Fridge

This is the sort of thing that legends are made of ... a fully stocked beer fridge. I can assure you that you will not find any vegetables in either of the vegetable drawers.

Fork and Spoon

I like utensils. They're handy. Before I travelled through Southeast Asia, I didn't realise that some people ate with a fork and spoon rather than the fork and knife that I grew up with. Now the fork and spoon (or spork and foon if you prefer) are my utensils of choice.

I'm not sure if this guy has a name or not, but, he certainly epitomizes the Essen Haus atmosphere on a typical Friday or Saturday night. Prost!

Enjoying the Fruit

After shovelling off a huge patch of ice, these pond hockey players are without a doubt enjoying the fruit of their labour. Fortunately for them it was only a few inches of light and fluffy snow.

The Bare Essentials

I'm biased. I love hockey, but for me, REAL hockey happens outside, on freshly shoveled ice, with boots for nets. These guys and gals are playing the real thing.

Hockey, Hockey, Hockey

Hockey, Hockey, Hockey

For this group of hockey fanatics, one game wasn't enough - if you look hard, you'll see a second game of shinny going on in the background.

Overnight snow and frost meet early morning sunshine shining on this trio of brown leaves.

Road Work Ahead

Road Work Ahead

As Milwaukee's roads and highways get ripped apart piece by piece as part of the Marquette Interchange Project, signs like these ones only hint at the real truth of the situation.

Downtown Rail Slide

Truck a hundred loads of snow into a downtown core, build a hill, put in a rail, and just watch the skiers and snowboarders come out of the woodwork.

Skiing in the Square

These kids seem to be enjoying a rare chance to ski in downtown Madison as part of the Capitol Square Sprints weekend. I'm not sure how much the girl who fell down is enjoying the whole ordeal, but her friends seemed to enjoy it.

Eggs McBreakfast

Looks like somebody brought breakfast -- I'm not sure how many Olympic athletes actually feast on this stuff, but the bag would at least lead you to believe that some do. If nothing else it is nice to see some real live neat hand writing.

I can't take credit for the sticker, though if I'm not mistaken, once upon a time, I did close Wolski's (a small but famous bar in Milwaukee).
